One of the causes of getting spam is using an unprotected email address in
newsgroups. Thus earleh@xxxxxxd in my From: line. The spambots
haven't figured out how to strip ".invalid" yet, or perhaps they know that
people who use a spam guard like this won't fall for their pathetic little
scams. Lots and lots of spam comes from Hotmail addresses. If you report
it to abuse@xxxxxx they will cancel the offending account. I used to
do this but the spammer just gets another one. If you want to have fun and
report a few spammers, make sure to copy the entire message including
headers in your abuse report.
If anyone from Microsoft happens to answer your question they are
undoubtedly playing hookie from their real work. Any answer you are likely
to get is from a volunteer. Some are good, but some are not. The main
advantage is that sometimes you get an answer right away, and it is free.
