My server requires authentication

Question, please : Why some accounts require server authentication and some
don't ?
I have 2 accounts : cogeco.ca account does not, while gmail.com account
does.

Re: My server requires authentication

Accounts that require authentication usually also use a port other than 25
for connection. This is done to avoid port 25 blocks that virtually every
ISP has and uses to hinder spammers and to allow you to send when not
physically connected to the ISP whose SMTP server you're using. Those that
don't use authentication will almost always require you to have a physical
connection to the network address space used by the SMTP server.
