Importing PST into Winmail

I exported my Outlook 2007 into a pst file on a USB memory stick. Then
installed Vista RC1 with Winmail (which I like because of its speed and
simplicity...nice on a laptop). Now I would like import the PST into
Winmail. Can this be accomplished? If so, how do I point Winmail to find the
pst file for importing?

Re: Importing PST into Winmail

Outlook must also be installed on the Vista computer and the PST file in
question must be the default PST file in use by Outlook. Once those
conditions are met, you can import from Outlook into Windows Mail. But a
PST by itself, without Outlook installed on the same computer, is useless.

Re: Importing PST into Winmail

It is astonishing that Microsoft does not allow for the importing of data
saved in one (Microsoft) e-mail program into the (Microsoft) e-mail program
that is packaged with new versions of Windows. My old computer died and I
have a new one with Vista and Windows Mail on it. I also have a back-up
drive with lots of pst files created on my old computer, all of which are now
completely inaccessible, it seems.

Completely and utterly astonishing. Goodness knows how long this is going
to disrupt the productivity that the Corporation seems so keen to improve.

By the way, the "improvements" to Word and Excel are also severely
disruptive to my productivity. Why was something that was not broken fixed
in such a disastrous manner?

Re: Importing PST into Winmail

MS wants you to keep using Outlook... and you can if you have version 2003
or newer.
Versions 2000 & 2002 will work, but they have problems. Which version do
you have?

Windows Mail cannot import a .pst file unless Outlook is installed on the
Vista computer.

You can install Outlook, copy the .pst to the Vista computer, open the .pst
with Outlook, then you can import into Windows Mail.

Or,
If you have Outlook installed on an XP computer, import the .pst data into
Outlook Express, copy the .dbx files and .wab file to the Vista computer,
and import into Windows Mail.

Re: Importing PST into Winmail

Outlook is in a completely different class than the freebie email programs
(Outlook Express, Windows Mail, Windows Live Mail). There is no
common program code between Outlook and the free email programs.
If you are used to Outlook, you should install it on your Vista PC.
