How do I recover these? I have so long just started Windows and hit my
automatic account button, then opened Mail and asked for new messages. I
don't ever remember being asked to log-on before.

If you get your mail through an account provided by your ISP, you use your
e-mail ID and whatever password you were originally given (unless you
changed it)..

There is a possibility that your ISP is having problems with the mail
servers, hence it is not connecting to your end.

You could call them and ask..
