I had the same problem after a completing a recovery on my HP desktop. I
resolved it by going to "tools""options""spelling" and checking the
"Always check spelling be fore sending" box. Afterwards, I was able to
launch spell check from the toolbar and it would also launch before
sending the mail. Hope this helps.
