Re: setting up account

I don't have live.com but when I had questions I went to my internet
carrier's (Comcast's) website and they had a link and that had the
information I needed - good luck

Re: setting up account

The only way Windows Mail can access a Live/Hotmail account is via POP3.
MSFT recently added POP3 access to Hotmail/Live accounts from most
countries.
http://mailcall.spaces.live.com/blog...33!49799.entry

However, Windows Mail is hard-coded to reject Hotmail/Live/MSN accounts, but
you can fool it by entering a fake email address (me@xxxxxx), then
changing it to your real address (me@xxxxxx).

However, you can use the newer Windows Live Mail to access your http
Live/Hotmail/MSN accounts using DeltaSynch like you may have done using
Outlook Express on XP.

That would likely be because "pop3" isn't a server name.

Get the correct server information from your ISP or mail provider. You
must be certain that the provider actually *has* POP servers. AOL, for
example, may have only IMAP Servers.

The directions will be almost identical to those for Outlook Express.

For example, for AOL,
http://about.aol.com/faq/openmailaccess

and
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/883081

Also, it is a bad idea to post your actual email address to newsgroups like
this. You are asking to have it harvested by spammers.

This basic information comes from your mail provider. I'm assuming that
you posted your real email address here (which is a bad idea since it can
gain you much spam), so it would be live.com.

Windows Vista Mail supports only POP/SMTP and IMAP servers. It does not
support HTTP servers, such as the old Hotmail servers, so you can't use it
with them. You can, however, use the free Windows Live Mail.

You can try the settings from here. If your system is a laptop, for the
SMTP server port, don't use port 25, use 587, as many ISPs block port 25
unless the connection is to their own mail server.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hotmail

POP3
POP3 access is now available for all Hotmail accounts, adding support to
access Hotmail from any email client - most notably mobile devices.[5]
POP3 Settings:
POP server: pop3.live.com (Port 995)
POP SSL required? Yes
User name: Your Windows Live ID, for example yourname@xxxxxx
Password: The password you usually use to sign in to Hotmail or Windows Live
SMTP server: smtp.live.com (Port 25 or 587)
Authentication required? Yes (this matches your POP username and password)
TLS/SSL required? Yes

The fix would be using valid server names and information, which comes from
the ISP or mail provider.

Jason, your PC's clock is set one day ahead. That can cause problems.
