Check the web interface to see if the mails were received; if they aren't
there, the problem has nothing to do with any email client.

Also, contact Virgin support to see if they have made any changes to server
access.

Beyond that, details like error messages would be helpful.

Re: Incoming Emails

I don't get any error messages come up when I click on send/receive just no
emails. I contacted the Virgin support and she checked my account and said
that everything is fine and that they should be coming through soon, although
there was a bit of language difficulty, basically I couldn't understand
clearly what she was saying as she had a strong accent. I'm a computer
novice so don't understand what you mean by check the web interface, do you
mean the Virgin website?

Most ISPs provide a web interface to their email service. Often, you go to
their site, there's a link for "mail", and you log in there and read the
mail via a browser.

Mail clients like Windows Mail only poll and download the contents of the
Inbox, so have a look in other folders like Junk.

It can happen that mail servers experience delays, but these seldom last
more than a few hours.

If the mail isn't visible in the web interface, Windows Mail can't download
it. While logged into the web interface, send mail to yourself, then check
with Windows Mail.

As well, Mail clients by default will delete mail from the server's inbox as
soon as it is downloaded, so if there is another system checking that
mailbox, that may be where it's going.

Re: Incoming Emails

Diane, I'm with Virgin and if you visit their website you should be able to
log on and access email via the web. I don't use my virgin account for
emails very often, so i can go months without receiving anything (which is
nothing unusual on that acccount).
On the Virgin site you need to look at the section marked 'My Virgin Media'
and then click the 'email' option. In the next window select the last part
of your email address from the list, click the Send button and then you
should see your email login screen.

DeeJay, go up to view and make sure it is set to show all messages.

Go to junk folder and do the same

Is real easy to hit a wrong setting and the emails are there, you just
can't see them.

If you run security software like Norton or McAfee they are notorious
for screwing up email. Also check if you got IE8 and let us know. We
want to help but it is not easy without error messages so if you are not
getting any we look for settings.

Re: Incoming Emails

ok I've checked view and it is set to show all messages and also the junk
folder is set to show all messages. I have Windows Vista, Windows Mail (not
OE) and my IE is version 7.0.6001.18000. I have checked on Virgin Media and
my inbox is empty there as well.

Re: Incoming Emails

Windows Mail can only download whatever emails are in your Virgin Media
webmail inbox. If nothing is there, it is not surprising that your Windows Mail
inbox is empty also. You need to call Virgin Media and explain to them that
when you send yourself a test email (or anyone else sends you email), it does
not show up in webmail.

Would suggest that you write a complaint letter to the highest person whose
name you can find at the ISP (even the CEO); use physical mail, not email,
as physical mail handling is governed by quite serious laws that do not
apply to email. Possibly have your solicitor compose the letter and send
it registered.

The problem was clearly on their end, *their* problem *lost* your data, and
*their* delay when notified made the impact on *you* worse.

You may be able to get some sort of settlement, or at least cause them some
grief for the cost of a solicitor's letter.
