    windows mail 0x800CCC0F error

    I am unable to receive emails however am able to send them. I have tried deactivating windows firewall and deactivating the AVG email scanning but to no avail. The error message that occurs is :

    Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: "NAME" - BT Yahoo! Mail', Server: 'mail.btinternet.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

    Can anyone shed some light on this problem?

    Never deactivate the Windows Firewall except for a brief test.

    Your AVG antivirus was probably installed with its default install option.
    If so, uninstall it, then reinstall, but select 'custom' install, which then
    allows you to unselect installing its troublesome email scanning module.

    While AVG is uninstalled, try Windows Mail again, just to verify that
    the culprit has been found.

    The windows firewall was only deactivated just for a test to see if it was that that was stopping the emails from being received at all.

    I have just uninstalled AVG and reinstalled without the email scanning as per your instructions. The result being this error message:

    Your pop3 server has not responded in 120 seconds. Would you like to wait another 120 seconds for the server to respond?

    This gives two options, wait or stop.

    I can however send emails.

    Assuming that your mail account may have been partially corrupted
    while the AVG email scanning was in effect, do this;
    Delete ('remove') your mail account, restart Windows Mail, then
    recreate the account.

    Assuming that your mail account may have been partially corrupted
    while the AVG email scanning was in effect, do this;
    Delete ('remove') your mail account, restart Windows Mail, then
    recreate the account.
    I have just created a new account after deleting the original. When trying to retrieve emails it tells me "Your POP3 server has not responded in 60 seconds. Would you like to wait another 60 seconds for the server to respond?" The server is mail@btinternet.com. Clicking Wait brings up the same message after another minute and increasing the time frame has no effect. Selecting Stop shows error message 0x800CCC19. " Account: 'mail.btinternet.com', Server: 'mail.btinternet.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC19"

    Any further suggestions?

    The error message still could be due to some sort of interference
    from a security program. Are you running any other security program
    such as Webroot Spy Sweeper?

    If no improvement after disabling email scanning, consider upgrading
    to Windows Live Mail, because it is less prone to suffering bad effects
    from overly intrusive security programs:

    Re: windows mail 0x800CCC0F error

    I have just tried to install windows live mail from that link that you gave but it appears that I already have everything installed. I have no other security programs on here at all.

    Is there anything else that I can do?
