Vista - Can't open email attachments

I have vista home premium and use Windows Mail. I have 3 users on my
computer. One of the users can't open email attachments, any type. He can
save attachments and open them from the folder, but can't just click and
open. I have the same problem as the administrator occasionally. When it
happens, I exit the email, re-open and it works fine. No error messages,
just nothing happens when I click on the attachment. I have Internet
Explorer 8, any chance that has something to do with it? I've downloaded
updates, checked settings, everything is in order as far as I can tell. In
security, attachements are allowed and it's set for Internet Zone.

There is a known bug appearing after the install of IE8.
So far there is no fix except uninstalling IE8.

Hi Rainald, thanks for responding! No error message, just nothing happens
when I click on the attachment. I will unistall IE8, hopefully that will fix
it. Why do you think I don't have the same problem with the other user, it's
the same computer, same settings?

It's not a good idea to run the computer logged in as an administrator.
Unless there are very special task ine should alway di wirk as a
standard user.

Thanks. I uninstalled ie8 and ie7 is running fine now. I may try ie8 after
MS comes out with ie9 - hopefully they'll have ie8 debugged by then.

My personal recommendations include:

=> Install IE8 manually, not via Windows Update/Automatic Updates!!

=> Uninstall all third-party toolbars (e.g., Google; Yahoo; Windows Live)
and third-party Windows Themes before installing IE8.

=> Close all open applications (i.e., anything with a taskbar icon) before
installing or uninstalling IE8.

=> I would strongly recommend disabling your anti-virus application and any
anti-spyware application's "system protections" (other than Defender's)
before installing (or uninstalling) an IE upgrade. If you're running a
third-party firewall, I would recommend disabling it and then enabling the
Windows Firewall before installing (or uninstalling) an IE upgrade.

=> Create a Restore Point manually before installing IE8.

=> Reboot twice after installing or uninstalling IE8.

=> For best chance of success with IE8, make certain that your anti-virus
application, any anti-spyware applications (other than Defender), and your
third-party firewall (if any) are supported in IE8 Final before you decide
install it.
