'Default programs|Set your default programs', set Windows Mail as default
and make sure it has all defaults assigned to it. If your version of Office
contains Outlook, this setting will last until the next Office/Outlook
update you receive through Windows/Microsoft/Office Update which will reset
Outlook as default; you'll have to keep an eye on this, or uninstall
Outlook. As to Windows Contacts and your Access list, you can export these
contacts from Access in Comma Separated Values (.CSV) format which Windows
    Contacts can import.

In addition to resetting Windows Mail as the default, do the same for
contacts. Open the Default Programs applet, which you can access either
from the Start menu or via the Control Panel, then click the first item:
    "Set your default programs."
After a few seconds, a list of programs comes up. Click on "Windows
Contacts". If it doesn't respond with "This program has all its defaults"
then fix it by clicking on the option indicated by the first green arrow.
