Automatic retrieval of mail

I can only retrieve my mail at start up. I can't get mail when I click on
Send/Receive or automatically. I only get an error message when I click on
Send/Receive...no other time. It says that an error has occured and to check
the details below...but there is nothing below.

Any suggestions/help?

Re: Automatic retrieval of mail

Post the complete (verbatim) error message.

Is this a sudden, new problem or an ongoing one?

Re: Automatic retrieval of mail

That symptom can be caused by interference from an antivirus
program. Which antivirus are you running?
As a minimum, email scanning in the antivirus should be turned off,
although that may not be sufficient to eliminate all bad effects.
In a worst case scenario, your antivirus may need to be uninstalled.

Email scanning in any antivirus should be disabled, for reasons
explained here:
http://thundercloud.net/infoave/tuto...ning/index.htm

If no improvement after disabling email scanning, consider upgrading
to Windows Live Mail, because it is less prone to suffering bad effects
from overly intrusive antivirus programs:

Re: Automatic retrieval of mail

The error messages says: "Some errors occurred while processing the
requested tasks. Please review the list of errors below for more details."

There is no list to review.

Re: Automatic retrieval of mail

This occurred after a virus and all software was deleted. I have not yet
reinstalled the antivirus software.

It has been ongoing for a month, but I was in the hospital part of the time
so didn't get around to getting it fixed or reinstalling the software...just
have been putting up with it.

I might give Live Mail a try...thanks.

Re: Automatic retrieval of mail

Unfortunately, Windows Mail can't be reinstalled without reinstalling
all of Vista. That's why recommend trying Windows Live Mail when
you have a major issue with Windows Mail.

Re: Automatic retrieval of mail

I tried Windows Live Mail, but when I open the e-mail box it is still Windows
Mail with no change.

Re: Automatic retrieval of mail

There should have been a clear difference between Windows Mail
and Windows Live Mail. What is the name of the shortcut you are
clicking on?
