Vista - Here's An Odd One

Under the Local Folders pane, my Outbox folder appears to be empty as there
is nothing showing waiting to be sent. My email service was down for a
couple of minutes this morning and I had an email waiting to be sent. I
opened the Outbox folder and found a reply to a newsgroup post that I
thought had been sent. It's a 1KB plain text reply. When I tried to open
it to see what it was about an error message popped up stating "the message
could not be displayed, and the following reason:
"Windows Mail encountered an unexpected problem while displaying this
message. Check your computer for low memory or low disk space and try
again."

Next I tried to delete the message and got a popup stating "An unknown error
has occurred". Another popup appears with a colored bar across it and the
words "Deleting messages" on it. There is a light shadow moving across the
bar which I guess is supposed to indicate some sort of action is happening.
Nothing happens though and I eventually just close the popup.

Next I tried to drag and drop it into the Deleted folder and again got a
popup stating "An unknown error has occurred" followed by another popup
stating "The selected message(s) could not be moved. An unknown error has
occurred"

What's up with the message? I can't open it, move it, send it or delete it.

I am having the same problem only in my sent Items folder.
I keep searching for clues on the net to help fix this as it has been a
problem to a lot of people for quite some time. If anyone knows of a fix to
delete the ghost e-mail that won't go away please let everyone in this
Discussion group know. Thanks

Check event viewer (windows application log) and see if there are ESENT
errors.

That "low memory" message is a default error message OE and WinMail throw
out when they can't figure out the problem. I'd ignore the problem at the
moment. MS is working on the "ghost" messages and hopefully they will be
eliminated in future builds.

You can try physically deleting the file from Windows Explorer and see what
that does.

There are lots of ESENT errors in the event log. The message does not show
up in Windows Explorer Outbox folder. There are a couple of files in there
that I sent to the recycle bin but neither removed the mail from my Windows
Mail Outbox so I restored them (don't know what they are). So, the message
is still sitting in the outbox.
BTW. I really like the new search function. It helped me find the outbox
folder and the event logs quickly.

I have the same problem but I can't ignore it because I can't sent e-mail
anymore since this Ghost message is stuck there!

You can try different things, such as deleting the outbox directory and
seeing what happens. I haven't tried that.

That does not work either. I have tried everything I have seen on here
suggested and no fix. Anybody try one of those dbx file extractors? This is
BS because I cannot send out any emails here at our business and I thought
this was such a great business program VISTA.

HUH? Please don't tell us you're running Vista in a work environment! Did you
not read *any* of the documentation that says "do not use in a production
environment"? Did you not know "production" means "work"?

Just encountered the same type problem with RC1. Problem began when trying
to delete about 36 message from the deleted folder at once. Mail program
locked up. When I restarted Mail, the message headers were still present in
the deleted folder; however, I could not view, move, or delete any of the
messages. Just kept getting the same error messages as everyone else. Like
another post stated, maybe they're going to work the problem out.

Thanks to all for the prior posts so I wouldn't keep banging the head
against the wall on this.
