| | Password pop up box For the past day each time I try to get on to Windows mail to a box comes up asking for my username and password. The top of the box says: Windows Security The directions in the box state: Please verify that both username and password are correct for your mail server. There is a box to check at the bottom that says: Remember my credintials. When I cancel the box the error message I get is: Account: 'pop.charter.net', Server: 'pop.charter.net', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR a user name MUST be entered', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC91 Until yesterday my mail program just came right up when I clicked the e-mail icon. Did we hit a button we shouldn't have by accident? Thank you in advance for any help you can offer. |

| | Re: Password pop up box A likely reason for the username/password failing is account corruption. One thing you should try as a possible quick fix is to delete that corrupted mail account, restart Windows Mail, then recreate that account. If that doesn't fix it, more drastic measures will have to be taken. Which antivirus are you running? As a minimum, email scanning in the antivirus must be turned off, although that may not be sufficient to eliminate all bad effects. In a worst case scenario, your antivirus may need to be uninstalled. If turning off the email scanning function does not resolve your problem, consider upgrading to Windows Live Mail, because it is less prone to suffering bad effects from overly aggressive antivirus programs. http://download.live.com/wlmail Email scanning in any antivirus must be disabled, for reasons explained here: http://thundercloud.net/infoave/tuto...ning/index.htm -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (Mail) "The Whites" <TheWhites@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:5C4BA307-9824-432F-A688-96A08EF56198@xxxxxx Quote: > For the past day each time I try to get on to Windows mail to a box comes up > asking for my username and password. > The top of the box says: Windows Security > The directions in the box state: Please verify that both username and > password are correct for your mail server. > There is a box to check at the bottom that says: Remember my credintials. > > When I cancel the box the error message I get is: > Account: 'pop.charter.net', Server: 'pop.charter.net', Protocol: POP3, > Server Response: '-ERR a user name MUST be entered', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): > No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC91 > > Until yesterday my mail program just came right up when I clicked the e-mail > icon. > > Did we hit a button we shouldn't have by accident? > Thank you in advance for any help you can offer. > |

When I went to Accounts, I didn't find the option to choose a charter account. And I don't know how to delete a mail account. Does that mean I have to lose all my emails? Thank you for any help you can offer. |

| | Re: Password pop up box What do you see after going to Tools, Accounts? You should see your mail account(s) unless you haven't installed any yet. After highlighting (selecting) your mail account you can click on 'Remove' which deletes the account. Your emails will not be deleted. -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (Mail) "Patti Douglass" <PattiDouglass@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:5B525AE9-1B0E-4C81-87A7-40E39563EC30@xxxxxx Quote: > > > "The Whites" wrote: > Quote: >> For the past day each time I try to get on to Windows mail to a box comes up >> asking for my username and password. >> The top of the box says: Windows Security >> The directions in the box state: Please verify that both username and >> password are correct for your mail server. >> There is a box to check at the bottom that says: Remember my credintials. >> >> When I cancel the box the error message I get is: >> Account: 'pop.charter.net', Server: 'pop.charter.net', Protocol: POP3, >> Server Response: '-ERR a user name MUST be entered', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): >> No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC91 >> >> Until yesterday my mail program just came right up when I clicked the e-mail >> icon. >> >> Did we hit a button we shouldn't have by accident? >> Thank you in advance for any help you can offer. >> > thing happen tonight, but neither of the replies made sense to me.
