can't stop contact from coming up in "TO:"

I have a contact that I have deleted from my contacts list.
Yet, every time I go to compose a new email and hit the first letter of his
name, but intended for another person who's name also starts with the same
letter, the deleted contact's email address comes up first instead of the
intended recipient's.
How to I get rid of a contact that has already been deleted from coming up
in memory in the "TO:" field.
I hope I explained that well.

WM remembers the last 29 entries typed in, eventually that one will drop
off the list.
