Help with Mailto links

Hello,

I have checked several threads regarding mailto links, but none seem to work for my problem.

At first when I would click a mailto link on a webpage nothing would happen. After checking a few threads here, I checked the defaults and set associations and was able to fix that.

My problem now is that when I click a mailto link it only opens Windows Mail and not a new message with the email address and subject (as Outlook does when I use it in Win XP).

Is there a solution for this problem?

Bonnie

Re: Help with Mailto links

The following procedure will rewrite the default protocol
assignments in the registry:
Open the Default Programs applet, then click on "Set program
access and computer defaults." Expand the Custom selection, and
select Windows Mail. Click OK.

Re: Help with Mailto links

Thank you for the reply Gary, but I have already tried that and it does not work. I am not sure what else to do. I have changed the default to another program and then back again and that does not work either.
Please help! This is driving me crazy.

Re: Help with Mailto links

Sorry to hear that. The only other suggestion I have is to upgrade to
the replacement email program, Windows Live Mail:

Re: Help with Mailto links

Have you installed IE8?

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed, is your
subscription current, and is it supported in IE8? What anti-spyware
applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall (if any)?
Were any of these applications running in the background when you installed
IE8?

Has a Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on this machine
(e.g., a free-trial version that came preinstalled when you bought it)?

Is "Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 8 for Vista (KB969897)"
listed in Installed Updates?

Just asking for now!! Do NOT use such a Restore Point yet!! => Do you have
an available Restore Point which predates the install of IE8?

RE: Help with Mailto links

Try putting the registry key for MailTo into the registry.
Copy everything between the dotted lines into Notepad.
Save the file to your desktop. Name the file MailTo.reg.
Make sure Notepad doesn't use the extension .txt. If it
does, change the extension to .reg. Close all open
windows. Click/Double Click the file - it will ask if you
are sure you want to add it to the registry. Answer yes.
