| | Windows Mail can no longer support HTTP Hello: I have read that the solution to the error message that says that Windows Mail "can no longer support HTTP" is by installing Windows Live. I did install Windows Live, however, and the error still appears. What else has to be done? childdofthe1980s |

| | Re: Windows Mail can no longer support HTTP Well, we used to be able to send pictures to my Hotmail account from our XP laptop. Then, we got a Vista laptop and it gives this error message. I don't know what I want to do with this e-mail stuff other than be able to send pictures to Hotmail without getting this stupid error message that we are now getting since we "upgraded" to Vista. | | Re: Windows Mail can no longer support HTTP Microsoft has enabled POP access for free Hotmail/Live accounts. Follow the settings given here: http://mailcall.spaces.live.com/Blog...33!49799.entry NB: Use port 587 rather than port 25 for the Outgoing (SMTP) server. Windows Mail's account setup wizard is hard-coded to reject Hotmail and MSN addresses. So, when you enter your Hotmail/MSN email address initially, use a fake one, such as myname@xxxxxx. After the account setup is complete, go back and correct your email address. [The above is based on a recent post in this newsgroup by my colleague and fellow MVP Gary VanderMolen: http://groups.google.com/group/micro...f81bc211f7fec] -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-IE, Mail, Security, Windows Client - since 2002 childofthe1980s wrote: Quote: > Hello: > > I have read that the solution to the error message that says that Windows > Mail "can no longer support HTTP" is by installing Windows Live. > > I did install Windows Live, however, and the error still appears. | | Re: Windows Mail can no longer support HTTP This doesn't really help. Let me see if I can explain better. My wife owns this new Vista laptop, after we gave her XP laptop to her sister in Michigan a few weeks back. She used to be able to send pictures to my Hotmail account in Windows Photo Gallery. Now, she can't do that because of her stupid error message. So, now, I have to put my Hotmail address on her laptop. That makes no sense. I mean, I don't mind her seeing my e-mail of course. But, it's her laptop--not mine. Why shold my account be on someone else's laptop. I mean, if she sent pictures to others besides me who have Hotmail accounts, do we have to set up their e-mail accounts on her laptop also? Can't wait 'til Windows 7 comes out and we can get out of this stupid Vista world. childofthe1980s "PA Bear [MS MVP]" wrote: Quote: > Microsoft has enabled POP access for free Hotmail/Live accounts. | | Re: Windows Mail can no longer support HTTP Is Windows Live Mail (which is not the same thing as Windows Live Hotmail) also installed on her laptop? If it was and it (not Windows Mail) was configured as the default Mail Client, Windows Live Photogallery and Windows Live Mail should be able to work together. => You'll find support for Windows Live Mail (WLMail) in this public newsgroup: microsoft.public.windows.live.mail.desktop Via the web-interface: http://www.microsoft.com/communities...e.mail.desktop Via your newsreader: news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof...e.mail.desktop => You'll find support for Windows Live Photogallery in this public newsgroup: microsoft.public.windows.live.photogallery Via the web-interface: http://www.microsoft.com/communities...e.photogallery Via your newsreader: news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof...e.photogallery Quote: > Can't wait 'til Windows 7 comes out and we can get out of this stupid > Vista > world. | | Re: Windows Mail can no longer support HTTP Hi PA Bear, I tried your original instructions, again, and they worked perfectly! Thank you! I just don't like that Vista forces the use of my e-mail account or any other e-mail account on my wife's laptop other than hers. That's very silly (Yes, "silly" is the technical term for it). childofthe1980s "PA Bear [MS MVP]" wrote: Quote: > Is Windows Live Mail (which is not the same thing as Windows Live Hotmail) > also installed on her laptop?
