| | Can't send link by email. The "Page" button on the website allows for that info to be sent by email or by link. However, when I select to send by link I get an error message about ISP and IMAP. I have gmail as my default, and I think I need to switch to whatever is compatible with windows mail. This is a new computer and prior I used XP with OUtlook. -- Diamond |

| | Re: Can't send link by email. What web site? We also don't know what the page button does. For ISP problems, you need to get help from your ISP. What's the problem? What are you asking? If you need help with an error, you need to provide the entire error message and describe the context in which you get the message. | | Re: Can't send link by email. It sounds like you are talking about webmail. Gmail can be accessed via webmail (using your browser), or with a desktop client using either IMAP or POP protocol. It is not possible to set Gmail's webmail as the default email service in Vista, even though Gmail claims it is possible. See the Vista disclaimer here: http://email.about.com/od/gmailtips/...fault_prog.htm You can set up your Gmail account in Windows Mail by following these instructions: http://email.about.com/od/gmailtips/qt/et010605.htm -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (Mail) "Jim" <Jim@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:5CF8F03C-BEE3-4597-8A20-DE00682999F6@xxxxxx Quote: > The "Page" button on the website allows for that info to be sent by email or > by link. | | Re: Can't send link by email. You are asking how to "allow my sending links by email." I did answer that question, but perhaps you didn't understand my answer. If you mean, sending that link via Gmail's webmail, it can't be done. If you mean, sending that link via a Gmail account set up in Windows Mail, that is quite doable, assuming you have that set up correctly. Let me know if you need further explanation of a particular point. -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (Mail) "Jim" <Jim@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:AD9464D4-7EC2-4403-8827-3C503A5F2FFF@xxxxxx Quote: > Thanks, I am talking about webmail. | | Re: Can't send link by email. Please forgive me for being unable to express my comments in an understandable way. Allow me to try again. This is a new computer with Vista and has Windows 64 bit. My old computer was XP. I believe that the default email was Outlook Express because when I sent a "link by email" it was the Outlook Express email which sent it. I was able to use gmail, but I believe the default was Outlook Express. Now, to my new computer. As I have tried again and again to set up my email account to windows mail, I keep finding that Gmail is my default mail. When I go to windows mail; tool; accounts; email. It is here at this stage where I can add, remove, or do other actions that I find: IMAP.gmail.com (default) and just beneath that is my email address (ncjim33@xxxxxx). What changes can I make in order for me to have the "Page" button function correctly? | | Re: Can't send link by email. Sorry, but you still haven't explained your problem in sufficient detail. "link by email" in what program? "Page" button in what program? It sounds like you are talking about Internet Explorer, and the Page pull-down button on the Toolbar.. I'm really not familiar with what it does, as I use Firefox. But mine shows Gmail as an email option. If you select Page - All accelerators - Manage Accelerators... you can change the default email program. I changed mine to Windows Live, but it uses the online version. If this is what you are referring to, you need to ask in an IE group. -- Windows 7 RC http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview http://download.live.com/wlmail "Jim" <Jim@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:4DC58EC9-8536-4DC3-8BEF-568CC30F2B7D@xxxxxx Quote: > Please forgive me for being unable to express my comments in an > understandable way. | | Re: Can't send link by email. When you say "default email was Outlook Express" I think you mean that the default email program was OE. That makes sense so that much is probably accurate. When you say "I was able to use Gmail", that is not clear. It is not clear whether you used OE for Gmail or if you used IE for Gmail. When you say "Gmail is my default mail", perhaps you mean that your Gmail account is the default account or perhaps you mean that Gmail is the default email program. If you mean to say that Gmail is the default email program, then that is confusing because that is not possible. If you are trying to say that your Gmail account is the default account then you need to be more explicit. You seem to be saying that Gmail is your default email address in windows mail, and others are misunderstanding. I think you are trying to ask for help setting up your Gmail account in windows mail. If that is what you need help with then I hope someone helps you but I am not sure how to do it. | | Re: Can't send link by email. It sounds like you are clicking on something in Internet Explorer (which you did not mention). Assuming that is the case, try the following: Open the Default Programs applet, which you can access either from the Start menu or via the Control Panel, then click the first item: "Set your default programs." After a few seconds, a list of programs comes up. Click on "Windows Mail". If it doesn't respond with "This program has all its defaults" then fix it by clicking on the option indicated by the first green arrow. You should be able to "Send Link by E-mail" from within IE now. If you get an error message, let us know what it says. -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (Mail) "Jim" <Jim@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:4DC58EC9-8536-4DC3-8BEF-568CC30F2B7D@xxxxxx Quote: > Please forgive me for being unable to express my comments in an > understandable way.
