Please excuse my frustration as I have been working at this issue for
    TOO LONG now.

I am very familiar with the Windows Mail Import/Export tool and how to
use it. However, this method does NOT work in my particular case.

I do NOT have access to Outlook Express 6 via the "Normal"
methodology. My main PC's motherboard burned out and I resorted to
pulling the HDD out of the system and making it an External HDD. This is
the only way that I was able to save/access Outlook Express 6's .dbx
    email files.

So, I DO have full access to the old .dbx files from the old system.

Right after my old PC bit the dust, I went out and purchased a brand
new laptop here that is running Vista Home Premium which of course uses
Windows Mail as the Email program and uses .eml for the file extention.

I was able to resetup all me Email accounts manually as well as Import
my old Outlook Express 6's Contact List files (.wab) format.

The problem I am having is getting the old Outlook Express .dbx
folders and files to Import into Windows Mail. I KNOW the .dbx files are
NOT compatible with WM .eml format.

I need to know HOW to convert the .dbx files to the .eml format so I
can then Import them into Vista's Windows Mail.

    Can someone PLEASE help me!

    I would be forever grateful!

That's all covered in the URL I gave you.
See the section "Importing E-mail Messages".
Note: You don't convert .dbx to .eml. Windows Mail imports directly
    from the .dbx files.

For another description of the same procedure, see
    http://www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx
particularly the section "Importing from Outlook Express", and
be sure to read the paragraph in red.

I did try the above procedure several time to no avail.

It will find the folder with hold the .dbx files, but will NOT show
them. When I go to Import from the Folder, I get a Popup window with a
    long error message.

It appears the one needs to have a functioning Outlook Express program
(which mine does not on the External HDD). Apparently, OE6 NEEDS to
    operational from an XP environment.

At this point I'm pondering Copying the Folder which houses the .dbx
Files to another laptop I have (that runs off XP and has OE6). I think I
will then Import the .dbx files from there to my Vista Laptop.

I would think there would be a far less laborious way to complete this
    task though....

    Ideas ?????

Re: How does one convert Outlook Express's .dbx files into Windows Mail .eml format ??

Did you try it via the method given in the second URL I gave you?
    A couple of pointers:
All the .dbx files including folders.dbx must be together in an
otherwise empty folder, which must reside on the hard drive where
Windows Mail is installed. It is best if that location is under your
Windows profile, to avoid ownership issues. Don't try to work
directly from a non-local or external drive. If those files were copied
from a CD, the read-only attribute may be set, so be sure to undo that.

I had to Copy the (folders.dbx) file itself into another Folder. That
was the missing link I believe. Once that was accomplished I was able to
Import all the .dbx Emails into Windows Mail.

    I appreciate your help!
