Can't Get Rid Of OR Break Left Margin Vertical Quote Line To Add My Reply Between.

Still using Windows Mail (Vista 64-bit). When I reply to an email the
senders message is "quoted" using a heavy vertical black line in the left
margin that apparently cannot be broken. In other words, if I would like to
reply to something between paragraphs of the original email I cannot break
the "quote line". Instead my text (reply) appears as part of the quoted
text. Is there any way to configure a more conventional way--a way of
getting rid of this lousy unbreakable vertical line? I would MUCH MUCH
prefer quote lines each starting with a '>' for instance where a break can
occur anywhere or the '>' characters even reformatted. If there is no
resolution to this it is another reason to dump Windows Mail and return to
Agent. Funny how newsgroups does this right but email doesn't--actually, it
isn't funny at all. Thank you for the help/solution/pointing out what
I'm missing to see/etc.

The vertical line is the default quoting method for HTML.
If you need to intersperse text in a quoted HTML message,
first change the format to plain text.
You can also keep your Windows Mail from adding a vertical line:
Tools, Options, Send, Mail Sending Format, HTML Settings,
uncheck the last box.

Re: Can't Get Rid Of OR Break Left Margin Vertical Quote Line To Add My Reply Between.

There are a couple or more issues here.

The most important probably is that you probably have your options set to
always use HTML. Note that in this reply, I get the ">" prefix. Your message
to the group is in plain-text format. If you were to reply to your message,
do you get the ">" as I did or do you get the solid lines you describe? If
you get the solid lines then it is because your options are set so that your
replies are in HTML format even though the message being replied to is plain
text.

Your option is probably set to always use HTML format; you can change it to
reply using the format of the message you are replying to.See the "Send" tab
of the options for the option "Reply to messages using the format in which
they were sent".

I know what you mean about the unbreakable vertical line. It is not obvious
to me what we are supposed to do. I am surprised that the software is using
something such as that that does not have an obvious solution. What I do is
to first enter two or three or more blank lines, then press the button to
un-indent. That removes the vertical line. I am not sure what is happening
but it works for me. Then I type my reply and then I delete the extra lines.
I can't be specific about how to do it because it is not clear to me; I just
do what I need to do to get it to work.

Thank you. I think I have all this straightened out now.
