| | still having trouble Yes my outgoing is on SMTP port 587. Something to do with IMAP that is giving me trouble and says it doesn't recognize my email address. I still can't send. My choices for incoming are IMAP, POP3 and HTTP but HTTP doesn't seem to work for me. Thanks! Candy |

Repost & assuming you're trying to set up the account in Windows Mail, not Windows Live Mail: Use the Configuration Settings on this page: http://mailcall.spaces.live.com/Blog...33!49799.entry NB: Set Outgoing server (SMTP) to Port 587, not Port 25! Windows Mail's new account wizard is hard-coded to reject name@xxxxxx and name@xxxxxx addresses. When you enter your email address during setup, use a dummy one (e.g., name@xxxxxx). After you've finished, go back and change the email address to the correct one. [The above courtesy of MVP Gary VanderMolen] If you're trying to use Windows LIVE Mail, post here instead for assistance: http://www.microsoft.com/communities...e.mail.desktop Candy wrote: Quote: > Yes my outgoing is on SMTP port 587. | | Re: still having trouble Scotty, it would have been helpful if you had told us what kind of email account you are trying to set up, @hotmail.com, @live.com, or something else? If the former, follow the settings given here: http://mailcall.spaces.live.com/Blog...33!49799.entry Use port 587 rather than port 25 for the SMTP server. Although it accepts the newer Live.com addresses, Windows Mail's account setup wizard is hard-coded to reject Hotmail and MSN addresses. To get around that, when you enter your Hotmail/MSN email address initially, use a fake one, such as me@xxxxxx. After the account setup is complete, go back and correct your email address. -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (Mail) http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/profile/VanderMolen "scotty" <scotty@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:3E9F197D-2715-4ED4-A85C-0069744237F0@xxxxxx Quote: >i am having the same trouble, and have now confused myself opening new email > accounts.it all goes fine then sez that POP3or HTTP are no good as servers > ,using a lap top running from a router connected to netgear, how did u get out > of ur hole, because i have tried a few things but am in no way a > professional, complete novice would be a better description.thanks for any > help.scotty > > "Candy" wrote: > Quote: >> Yes my outgoing is on SMTP port 587.
