Hi, I've just bought a Nokia e71 with the idea being that I can stay on top
of my emails when away from my computer. Can someone please give me some
advice as to how?

Read the manual. Also look at the name of this newsgroup, which is
"microsoft.public.windows.vista.mail".

If your user manual doesn't explain it, there is probably a Nokia users forum
online that can help you.
