Sorry if this is a repeated question, but I don't see a subject line
relevant.
I am trying to import Outlook e-mails into Windows (Vista) Mail. I changed
machines and wish to get a bit more current than Outlook 2002 I have been
running for years. Now on the old machine (XP), I exported data to a .pst
file and sent that to the new machine. When I got the MAPI client error, I
found that I had Outlook 2003 available on the new machine. Opened the file
in there.
In Windows Mail (new computer), I have attempted to import the .pst file,
but no luck as still get a (non-helpful) message of MAPI. [It is not helpful
when it states MAPI is not installed on this computer or an error occurred
while initializing it.] That "OR" is the kiss of death for me.
I attempted to export data to a csv file, but didn't know whether to go DOS
or Windows. At the same time I found that it would not allow me to export
in the same manner I did for the .pst export. This time it seemed to want
individual folders-a process that would be rather tedious.
On the web I see things about trying to take the .pst file to Outlook
Express, but also see that is not compatible with Vista. OR, am I wasting
time and should drop Windows Mail based on its absence in Win7; am just go
back to Outlook 2003 (or something else) on the new machine?
Any insights would be appreciated.
