Windows Mail setup

I tried to set up my hotmail account following the instructions below
provided at
http://mailcall.spaces.live.com/Blog...y?sa=328983732

"When you set up Hotmail in the e-mail program on your PC or mobile device,
you may be asked for the following information:

POP server: pop3.live.com (Port 995)
POP SSL required? Yes
User name: Your Windows Live ID, for example yourname@newsgroup
Password: The password you usually use to sign in to Hotmail or Windows Live
SMTP server: smtp.live.com (Port 25 or 587)
Authentication required? Yes (this matches your POP username and password)
TLS/SSL required? Yes"

However, this has not worked properly and, when I try to send/receive all, I
keep getting is the error mesage

"Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Account: 'pop3.live.com', Server: 'pop3.live.com', Protocol:
POP3, Port: 995, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10053, Error Number:
0x800CCC0F"

for one account and

"The host 'POP3.outlook.com' could not be found. Please verify that you have
entered the server name correctly.
Account: 'POP3.outlook.com', Server: 'POP3.outlook.com', Protocol: POP3,
Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11001, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D"
for another one I've tried.

Can you help me at all?

Re: Windows Mail setup MORAG

Hi Morag I had a look at setting up a hotmail account using the port numbers
you identify and my account failed the same as yours.

Have a go this way. Go through the sequence again, Click Tools, Click
Accounts, Click properties, Click advanced.

Now on this Advanced page enter OUTGOING MAIL (SMTP) 587 Tick the box
"This server requires a secure connection"

Then INCOMING MAIL (POP3) 110 Tick the box "This server requires a secure
connection"

After entering the the SMTP 587 and then POP3 11O port no's my email account
works perfectly at the second attempt.

Re: Windows Mail setup

You did not follow all of the instructions.
The SSL option MUST be enabled.

NB: SSL must be enabled for Incoming and Outgoing servers.

TIP: Disable email scanning by your anti-virus application. It provides no
additional protection and it may be causing your problem.

Why you don't need your anti-virus to scan your email

That one's not even close to being correct, especially if it's a Hotmail
account.
