| | Spurious email addresses My wife is using vista with windows mail. The email address for one of her friends is correct in the contacts list but when she starts to type in her friends name in the "To" box three options pop up one of which is the correct address but two have additional letters embedded in them which makes them unusable. Is there any way to locate and delete these spurious addresses? Regards Bill |

| | Re: Spurious email addresses Windows Mail auto-completes from a separate list of 29 addresses you type in, not from your contacts. This list is stored in the registry. If you wish to remove old or incorrect addresses, there is a utility to clear recently used email addresses in Windows Mail... http://www.winhelponline.com/article...dows-Mail.html To retrieve addresses from your contacts folder, click on the To: button. This is one of the features that works properly in the newer Windows Live Mail. -- Windows 7 Ultimate http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview http://download.live.com/wlmail "Bill P" <BillP@newsgroup> wrote in message news:OybCP77XKHA.4704@newsgroup Quote: > My wife is using vista with windows mail. > The email address for one of her friends is correct in the contacts list > but when she starts to type in her friends name in the "To" box three > options pop up one of which is the correct address but two have additional > letters embedded in them which makes them unusable. | | Re: Spurious email addresses Hi Dave Have looked at that app but it doesn't locate incorrect addresses which need deleting, only recently used addresses. That is unless I am missing something . | | Re: Spurious email addresses I know how to display the contacts list. Perhaps I didn't explain the problem clearly enough. In the Contacts list against this particular name is the correct email address, and there is only one email address. When my wife creates a new email to this person the auto complete function throws up three alternative addresses. The correct one and two others which have additional letters within them which makes them unusable. My question is how to locate and delete the spurious emails. Ctrl+Shift+C is not the answer because they are not in the contacts list. | | Re: Spurious email addresses The auto-complete function only retrieves email addresses from those you type in, and these are stored in the Regisrty. The utility should find them. If it doesn't, you can manually remove the whole key in the registry if you are comfortable with doing that.
