Triple check everything here. Even an errant dot can cause problems.

Change the SMTP port to 587 and make sure: My Server Requires
    Authentication is checked.

How do I set up/configure Outlook Express, Windows Mail & Windows Live
    Mail for Comcast email?
    http://www.comcast.com/customers/faq...s.ashx?Id=2288

It may also be e-mail scanning causing this. "a long period of inactivity"
    is a giveaway.

Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant
layer of protection that eats up CPUs, slows down sending and receiving,
and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs, account setting
changes and has even been responsible for loss of messages. Your
up-to-date A/V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For

Note that for some AV programs, it may be necessary to uninstall the
program and reinstall in Custom Mode and uncheck e-mail scanning when the
    option arises.

Change the outgoing server name to smtp.comcast.net and the port
to 587. Also "My server requires authentication" must be checked.

If the problem continues, read on:
The error "unexpectedly terminated" is usually caused by interference
from an antivirus program. Which antivirus are you running?
As a minimum, email scanning in the antivirus should be turned off,
although that may not be sufficient to eliminate all bad effects.
In a worst case scenario, your antivirus may need to be uninstalled.

Email scanning in any antivirus should be disabled, for reasons
    explained here:
    http://thundercloud.net/infoave/tuto...ning/index.htm

As a possible temporary fix, delete that corrupted mail account,
restart Windows Mail, then recreate the account.

If no improvement after disabling email scanning, consider upgrading
to Windows Live Mail, because it is less prone to suffering bad effects
    from overly intrusive antivirus programs:

I had that problem and they also said to turn off email scanning or
uninstall the anitvirus software...I didn't do either...I got rid off the
error miessage by downloading and installing the newest version of Norton
360, which is version 4.. It will get rid of the error message...ok...they
also got mad because I wasn't responding to there suggestions..that is
because nothing Bruce or Gary said worked..

Alaska Girl, mark my words, your problem will return. Windows Mail
is not very compatible with Norton antivirus software.
