| | Outlook archives to Mail Like we are told to do, I backed up AND archived all my Outlook 2003 messages to a separate hard disk before a clean install of Vista. I then find that I can't get these messages or archives into Mail using the transfer wizard. Anyone any ideas? -- akadk |

| | Re: Outlook archives to Mail How did you back up Outlook? Did you just save the .pst file? If so, Windows Mail can attempt to import your messages directly--File/Import/Messages/Microsoft Outlook. If you intend to use Outlook in Vista, you can replace the .pst file created during the install of Office with your old one. -- Maxwell Bluemeanie "Akadk" <Akadk@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:5A075372-032C-46C7-AF39-788D5D664C41@microsoft.com... > Like we are told to do, I backed up AND archived all my Outlook 2003 > messages > to a separate hard disk before a clean install of Vista. | | Re: Outlook archives to Mail I just purchased a new PC with Vista. My old PC has Outlook 2003. I would like to get the e-mail messages from my old PC imported into Windows Mail. I don't plan on installing Outlook 2003 on my Vista PC. Is there some way to get Outlook 2003 e-mails imported into Windows Mail without installing Outlook? In another post there was the suggestion to export the messages from Outlook to Outlook Express, but I don't see that as an option when I attempt the export. -- JFD "Steve Cochran" wrote: > I think you have to have Outlook installed on the Vista machine and then > import from that. > > steve > > "Akadk" <Akadk@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > news:48ACEC01-D2F1-4A24-8A79-DEC0E65F213F@microsoft.com... > > Thanks - tried this, but I get an error message - *Messages cannot be > > imported from the MAPI file* > > > > I don't know what that means - is there anyway around it? > > -- > > akadk > > > > > > "Max" wrote: > > > >> How did you back up Outlook? > >> Did you just save the .pst file? > >> If so, Windows Mail can attempt to import your messages > >> directly--File/Import/Messages/Microsoft Outlook. > >> If you intend to use Outlook in Vista, you can replace the .pst file > >> created > >> during the install of Office with your old one. > >> > >> -- > >> > >> Maxwell Bluemeanie > >> > >> "Akadk" <Akadk@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > >> news:5A075372-032C-46C7-AF39-788D5D664C41@microsoft.com... > >> > Like we are told to do, I backed up AND archived all my Outlook 2003 > >> > messages > >> > to a separate hard disk before a clean install of Vista. | | Re: Outlook archives to Mail None of the above work on Vista 64-bit. 3rd-party convesion programs also don't work. Key problem appears to be that Vista 64-bit does not have the MAPI protocol available to WIndows mail. Outlook 2002 does work, so it's strange that Windows Mail can't get at it.
