Windows (Vista) Mail and 2GB file limitation?

Can anyone say with certainty whether Windows Mail (the one installed by
Vista) suffers from the same 2GB file size limitation which plagues unwary
Outlook Express users (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/903095/en-us)?

Re: Windows (Vista) Mail and 2GB file limitation?

The 2 GB file limit applied to an individual file. In Windows Mail,
messages are saved in folders in the native EML format rather than being
stored in a DBX file grows until compacted.

So, the answer is that article does not really apply to the mail store in
Vista.

Re: Windows (Vista) Mail and 2GB file limitation?

Sure, to add to what Jim said, see here:

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms684493.aspx

That is the database that Windows Mail is now using, which is also used by
Active Directory and MS Exchange.

"has been used in applications with databases in extreme cases in excess of
1 terabyte, and commonly over 50 gigabytes"

How's them apples? <G>

The problem now is teaching them how to make the database relational instead
of tabular.

Can't answer your question directly. But... I think you are referring to the
2GB limit in Microsoft Outlook, not Outlook Express.

Outlook Express has a 2 GB limit on the DBX files for the individual OE
folders.

Ah... didn't know that. I just recently had to help someone recover from a

Re: Windows (Vista) Mail and 2GB file limitation?

I occasionally get errors regarding 8gb size of data base, not 2gb.
but mine appear in the event logs.

Re: Windows (Vista) Mail and 2GB file limitation?

From MS...

"SUMMARY
Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 and Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 have both a
different format and a larger overall size limit for the personal folders
(.pst) file than the .pst files that are in the earlier versions of
Microsoft Outlook. In Outlook 2002 and earlier, the .pst files are in the
American National Standards Institute (ANSI) format, and the overall size
has a limit of 2 gigabytes (GB)."

Here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/830336/

I was working with an Outlook 2000 machine.
