| | Windows Mail fails to open I just recently started getting two error messages when I try to open windows mail. Here is what they are: 1) Windows Mail could not be started. The application was unable to open the Windows Mail message store. Your windows Mail mailbox data is currently being used by another program, such as a virus scanner. Clos the program or wait for it to complete its operation, then open Windows Mail again. (0x800C0155) 2)Windows Mail could not be started because MSOE.DLL could not be initialized. I have disabled my virus program (Sophos) and restarted and tried again to open it. I've had no success. Any ideas? |

The application was unable to open the Windows Mail message store. Your windows mail mailbox data is currently being used by another program such as a virus scanner. close the program or wait for it to complete it's opperation then open windows mail again. (0x800c0155) no other programs are running besides the vista startup programs, checking the event viewer i'm seeing this message. WinMail (3048) WindowsMail0: An attempt to move the file "D:\Users\joseph\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail\edb.log" to "D:\Users\joseph\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail\edb00004.log" failed with system error 5 (0x00000005): "Access is denied. | | Re: Windows Mail fails to open You have a permissions issue on the store folder for WinMail. You need to take ownership of the store directory and then reset the permissions on it. Alternatively, you can delete the jrs, edb, chk, log, and msmessagestore files and WinMail will generate a new database, and that might fix it. steve "Joe Miller" <JoeMiller@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:4F15720F-3EAF-4218-84FD-929A68D79DFE@microsoft.com... > i'm getting the same problem now, first i was haveing to manually move > message files form the outbox to the sent box to keep from getting it > resent > every time i opened or closed e-mail. now i'm unable to open windows mail > at > all with this message > > windows mail could not be started. | | Re: Windows Mail fails to open already had set ownership to me to try to fix the problem of moving emails between boxes. ended up fixing the not able to open problem by deleting all files in the windows mail folder then had to log in to window safe mode and open up mail there, moved the emails back into their respective folders. was able to move emails between folders in safe mode. back in normal mode i can now open mail again, still cannot move emials between folders and keep getting errors when sending mail cause it can't move the mail from outbox to sent "Steve Cochran" wrote: > You have a permissions issue on the store folder for WinMail. > > You need to take ownership of the store directory and then reset the > permissions on it. > > Alternatively, you can delete the jrs, edb, chk, log, and msmessagestore > files and WinMail will generate a new database, and that might fix it. > > steve > > "Joe Miller" <JoeMiller@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > news:4F15720F-3EAF-4218-84FD-929A68D79DFE@microsoft.com... > > i'm getting the same problem now, first i was haveing to manually move > > message files form the outbox to the sent box to keep from getting it > > resent > > every time i opened or closed e-mail. now i'm unable to open windows mail > > at > > all with this message > > > > windows mail could not be started. | | Re: Windows Mail fails to open Well, that sucks. You might try resetting the permissions. Or create a new directory in your user space and then go to Tools | Options | Advanced | Maintenance | Store Folder and set the new location of the message store to that new directory. Then close WinMail and it will move the store to that location on its own when it reopens. That might fix the problem. | | Re: Windows Mail fails to open I'm glad you got it working. If you ever get that error 5, its usually a permissions issue, and unfortunately they seem to have introduced lots of those into Vista.
