configuring OE

ok so im a total OE n00b but i want to start using it and getting my mails
organised. when its asking for the incoming or outgoing mail server i have
absolutely no idea what to enter! i want it to catch the mail from
'webmail.freedom2surf.net' but im going to need some advice on whether its
POP3, http, imap etc and what the difference is.

I also want to subscribe to this newsgroup. how would i go about doing that?
its a similar thing asking for a server, what is it i enter?

Sorry for being a typical newbie :S

Re: configuring OE

ok ive figured out the newsgroups bit from playing around but i still cant
sort out the mail servers. Could someone give me an example of how to do
this?

with the company freedom2surf i use their webmail. when im in the inbox the
address is webmail.freedom2surf.net but this doesnt work as a pop3 right? so
would these be used as a http setting? will it forward my mails from there
to OE?

Any advice will do as long as its relevant :-)

Use the Outlook Express configuration instructions here:
http://www.freedom2surf.net/help/tutorials/4/ . Windows Mail will be
essentially the same...

http://www.freedom2surf.net/help/emailtechfaq.php

"Which settings do I use to set up my email program?
All of the settings you need to setup your email program can be found in
your Members Area in the email section."

"How do I read and send freedom2surf emails?
You generally have 2 options.
1. You can send and receive using our webmail service
https://webmail.freedom2surf.net this also includes a calender and address
book.
2. You can use an email program on your computer such as outlook express or
mozilla. To do this you must configure the email program before you can send
or receive. Please see our list of tutorials for a guide on how to do this.
Also log into your members area and check you are using the correct
settings."

"What is my outgoing smtp server?
To send emails you should use outmail.f2s.com as your smtp server. This
applies when using an email program on your computer such as outlook or
outlook express."

"What is the difference between POP3 and IMAP?
When you collect your emails using POP3 the emails are downloaded from our
server and saved to your computer. Only one POP3 connection can be opened at
a time, and this cannot be used at the same time as IMAP.
When you choose IMAP you can see your emails as if they are on your
computer, though in fact they are still on our server. You can check this
with webmail. Several IMAP connections can be opened simultaneously. This is
useful if you need access to your emails from different locations."

RE: configuring OE

I am having a similar problem with videos which lock things up when trying to
forward, I was told by a Dell representive the windows mail cannot handle
these types of attachements, I really do not believe that as a person can use
yahoo, hotmail, etc and they can. Must be some type of glich in the windows
mail system as it is not pop3 problem as i had that checked also.

Re: configuring OE

Its probably not locking up. It has to do an encoding so it can be sent
over the internet. That takes time with huge files and Vista performance is
pretty bad anyway, so I suspect its just slow. Pretend its an XT machine.
