| | Windows Mail & Microsoft Outlook I am running Vista Ultimate. I wanted a word processor so I installed Microsoft Office 2007. This updated the Windows Mail to Microsoft Outlook. I have been very comfortable using Windows Mail which was just like Outlook Express. Is there any way I can configure Microsoft Outlook to look like Microsoft Mail? I liked the 2 columns in OE where the messages are above the opened displayed message. In Microsoft Outlook the messages are in a separate column. |

| | RE: Windows Mail & Microsoft Outlook You did not upgrade windows mail. It can't be done. These are 2 diff email programs and they can exist together. Just start Windows Mail and make it the default email program in Internet Options, Programs, Set Programs. Don't use Outlook if you don't want to. "smtjs" wrote: > I am running Vista Ultimate. You have to change back to Mail as your default. One way to do that is to hit the windows button in the bottom left corner and in the start search box type default. Default Programs should pop up at the top of the menu. Click it and you will see Set your default programs as one of the links. It will open with Windows Mail as one of the options on the left. Click it and choose Set this program as default. Now Mail is your default. Do the same for calendar and contacts and you now have outlook put to bed nicely. Wake it up anytime you choose or uninstall it if you like. -- BigK wrote this. |

| | Re: Windows Mail & Microsoft Outlook What Kevin said. Go to Control Panel | Default Programs and you can set WinMail as default and never use Outlook, or even uninstall it. steve "smtjs" <forgetit@nowhere.net> wrote in message news:ecH3xgbYHHA.448@TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl... >I am running Vista Ultimate. | | Re: Windows Mail & Microsoft Outlook If a user has access to Outlook, he/she is probably better off using it instead of Windows Mail, given all the problems Windows Mail users are experiencing. I'm ready to switch myself, but I need to know the ins and outs of WinMail so I can support other users. | | Re: Windows Mail & Microsoft Outlook My deepest thanks to everyone who replied. It's so easy, if you just know how to do it. It is also nice to know that the programs are separate and I can change from one to the other. Thank you all again. | | Re: Windows Mail & Microsoft Outlook Just FYI, when you install Office and any with Outlook available, Outlook will become the default e-mail client whether you want it that way or not. This is by design from the Office Team and has been that way for quite some time. It's also something we've complained about and was ignored. | | Re: Windows Mail & Microsoft Outlook Not only that, but each time you do an Office update, or Windows Update applies an Office patch, it resets Outlook as the default email program. Very user unfriendly! | | Re: Windows Mail & Microsoft Outlook Its due to arrogance on the part of the Outlook team. I had to put a link on my website for the poor OE users. www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#13 steve "Gary VanderMolen" <Gary@nomail.invalid> wrote in message news:eakvBkoYHHA.208@TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl... > Not only that, but each time you do an Office update, or > Windows Update applies an Office patch, it resets Outlook > as the default email program.
