mail merge won't work - Beta 2, WordXP, Outlook 2003

I've tried to send a mail merge via email. Can't get it to work with Beta 2,
WordXP, Outlook 2003. I do all the steps in the Mail Merge Wizard, linking
to an external excel file and then when it gets to pressing complete merge,
nothing happens. No error messages, no beeps, no sort of progress in the
status bar of Word.

I'm confident I have the steps right, as I am sending out a regular
newsletter.

Is this a known bug?

I wouldn't think doing that with WordXP (2002) and Outlook 2003 would work
on any OS. Don't the Word and Outlook versions have to match? A quick
Googling of "word 2002" "outlook 2003" "mail merge" seems to indicate so.

And this group is for the Mail client built into Vista called Windows Mail
anyways

My mistake - it's Outlook XP (2002).

Regardless, the pairing I have certainly can work, because it did before I
upgraded.

I moved the troublesome files to another machine that's still running XP. I
could still not get the Merge to work there. It tool me an hour of fiddling
until I found a way to make it work. I've no idea what actually made it
work, though :-( I suspect there was some minor file corruption, but that's
just a guess.

Re: mail merge won't work - Beta 2, WordXP, Outlook 2003

I found the problem. My Word installation seems to have become corrupted.
The spelling and grammar checks were not working, and one or tow other minor
things. I reinstalled Office (actually, I ran a repair installation) and now
the mail merge and everything else is working fine.

I cannot say definitively that the Vista upgrade caused the corruption, but
I hadn't noticed these issues before I upgraded.

Nevertheless, the bug report to MS should be helpful.
