Windows Mail problems Just do the "To Reset Windows" section or switch to Windows Live Mail. http://get.live.com/betas/maildesktop_betas |

| Guest | The solution I was going round in circles with this. So figured I would try a structured approach to resolving the issue. I tried the bug fix program, but that only repaired the database until the next time I accessed it, so that told me the problem lay with the mail data that is sitting in the folders. I tried 'one at a time', but no joy. I refused to delete systems files as this runs the risk of taking out part of the solution. So, after much playing around I did the following: Close Windows Mail Run Task Manager (CTRL + SHIFT + Delete) Check BOTH the applications and processes lists and End Task for Windows Mail. Run the WMUtil program that you can download to repair the database. Ok, so now we know that the database is clean and that Mail is not running. Run Windows Mail. Go into any jammed mailbox folder. Highlight all of the mail in it. Right click on a read message. Select 'Mark As Unread' from the mouse menu. They will all become 'Unread'. While they are all still highlighted, select delete. I went through each folder and this worked every time. Hope it helps someone, and as to how this schoolboy error got past Systems Testing, Quality Gates and UAT at Microsoft on a project the size of Vista is quite disturbing? Cheers Rob G |

| Guest | Re: The solution Thanks for your structured analysis. The theory is that this database corruption happens only when running with a non-compatible antivirus such as McAfee or Norton. Is that your situation? | Guest | Re: Can't deleate emails This is a recurring Windows Mail problem. There is some evidence that replacing a non-compatible antivirus program with a compatible one will reduce the incidence of this problem. Windows Mail is not compatible with most McAfee or Norton security programs. Those will need to be uninstalled. Replace with a more compatible antivirus like the free Avast: http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html As far as the existing stuck message in the inbox, it is best to just ignore it for now. If the problem becomes worse, or you can't ignore it, upgrade to Windows Live Mail: http://get.live.com/betas/maildesktop_betas Gary VanderMolen "jjbadcreek" <jjbadcreek@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:931B3594-DBC5-4CD2-80B4-F889DD21CACA@microsoft.com... >I have the same problem, did you get help, I can't figure it out... > > "photo cop" wrote: > >> First problem I have had with Vista. This is it... http://www.oehelp.com/WMUtil/Default.aspx It is interesting that the problem recurred. That suggests you are still using pathogenic antivirus software such as Norton or McAfee... Is that so? > > Kez > > "photo cop" wrote: > >> First problem I have had with Vista. I have a email that I have read and >> can >> not delete it from the inbox.
