Can't deleate emails

First problem I have had with Vista. I have a email that I have read and can
not delete it from the inbox. When I click delete I get an error message:
An unknown error has occurred.

Any suggestions? HELP!

Re: Can't deleate emails

Gary,

It spread to the Sent Mail folder too. Couldn't remove either sent mail or
that single email in my Inbox. Called Dell XPS tech support and within 15
min they solved the problem. Saved my important emails to a folder on
desktop and exported my address list to desktop. When in and opened the
Windows mail folder and deleted all of it's contents (Vista won't let you
delete the folder itself.) Rebooted and reinstalled the saved emails and the
address list. Worked...all stuck emails gone.

I did have to call my cable Internet provider to get infor for setting up
incoming and outgoing mail addresses but I too could have saved those...just
forgot.

Re: Can't deleate emails

Yes, deleting the Windows Mail directory contents works,
but for how long? There is no guarantee that you won't have
to do that again and again.

Re: Can't deleate emails

Gary,

Dell said they are having a lot of problem calls on this from Vista users so
I'm sure that Microsoft will have to "fix it" but who knows when. Now that I
know how to fix it, and it is a simple fix, who cares? Beats ignoring it!

BTW, for other Dell users, if you have the XPS series use the special phone
number that came with your computer for Tech Support...it comes from Canada.
My two tries to standard tech support went to India and were no help at all.

If it re-occurs, check your antivirus software. See

Re: Can't deleate emails

Glad it worked out for you. Many users are not proficient enough
to move files around with Windows Explorer, let alone
knowing how to overcome the 'hidden' attribute.

Incidentally, I agree with you about India tech support. That was
one of the main reasons why I no longer purchase or recommend
Dell products.

RE: Can't deleate emails

This should solve the problem! Very easy!

Left click once on the deleted items folder thats in the column on the left
side of the windows mail page, then right click on it once, then left click
on: empty "deleted items" folder, do the same thing if its the Junk E-mail
folder thats givin you the problem!(left click once on the Junk E-mail then
right click once, then left click the empty "junk E-mail" folder)

You sure are persistent with your advice on how to empty Junk and Deleted
items folders "jthom11", try answering the problem of emptying the Inbox, as
was requested?
