Re: Windows Mail and HTTP

We're not arguing. I'm just trying to get Hotmail Popper's capabilities
clarified, in view of what their website says. Perhaps you have a
so-called grandfathered account, which would not apply to most
of the newer Hotmail users. It doesn't seem right to offer them a
false hope if it's not going to work for them.

That website says:
"Please Note: Microsoft has recently decided that only paying members and existing 'valued' members will be able access Hotmail
using outside services such as Hotmail Popper. Hotmail Popper will continue working with a "Hotmail Plus" (or equivalent MSN)
account. It will also continue working if you have an older Hotmail account that Microsoft considers a 'valued' account."

Hey Mikey,
The last I checked, Hotpop would work only with Grandfathered Hotmail accounts with free http access into Outlook. Accounts
created after September 2004 would need a "screen scraper" software to mimic a POP server into your email client. You could
however still use Hotpop with a Premium account.
I believe the website for HotPop was a Canadian website called www.boolean.ca or something - just in case we arent talking
about
the same thing!

not necessarily true.
there is a program called HotPop (hot popper) that reads hotmail into windows mail.
no information is given out.
nothing complicated, run it and enter the account information as usual.

works great, use it daily.

I guess breathing is too complicated for some.

There is no way you could use a http email directly with "Windows Mail" -
UNLESS you are one of those chosen few with really old legacy POP3 based
MSN.com email addresses.
If you feel you are upto it - you could try one of the screen scraper
applications off the web which swipe your email off the hotmail.com site and
emulate a POP server on your localhost to download into Windows Mail. This
needs complicated setup and will be a PITA if you have other things on your
localhost such as AV scanning etc. You must also be worried about the
privacy of your data since you are essentially giving your id/ password to a
third party application.

However there are ways to get http based email (read hotmail.com / msn.com)
to an "email client" on your local computer though.

1. If you have a grandfathered MSN.com free-email with Outlook access: you
could use Outlook as your client (you'd however have to pay for Outlook
though!)
2. You could pay for Hotmail Plus/ MSN premium and get Outlook Connectivity
3. You could use "Windows Live Mail Desktop Beta" (yeah, do a search on this
long name and you'll get it!) to access msn.com and hotmail.com (even free
ones) on your desktop. The downside being that this one dishes out large ads
eating away huge chunks of your screen real estate. The only solution to
this has been some cracks floating around the internet which violate your
TOS with Microsoft OR to dish out money to subscribe to Hotmail/ MSN plus
and get rid of the ads.

Re: Windows Mail and HTTP

if you read how the program works you would see it uses a PROXY.
the proxy allows it to work regardless.
