| | AOL email address and Windows mail I get the following message every time I try to send email on Windows mail on my desktop computer equipped with Windows Vista. I think I must have the server information incorrect. I have the same problem on Outlook Express on my laptop that has Windows XP. "The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the "I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider. The rejected e-mail address was 'Argeebee@aol.com'. Subject 'Snood', Account: 'imap.aol.com', Server: 'smtp.aol.com', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '556 CLIENT AUTHENTICATION REQUIRED. USE ESMTP EHLO AND AUTH.', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 556, Error Number: 0x800CCC78" |

| | Re: AOL email address and Windows mail AOL doesn't use port 25 for their IMAP server. See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/883081 Yes it shows Outlook Express but Windows Mail is just a weird variation of OE.
