invalid e-mail address??

Hi I just upgraded to vista home premium and I'm trying to use windows mail.
My address is myname@remmerriley.me.uk When I try to set up the account I
get a message saying the address is invalid? If I continue I get an error
message about port110. Any ideas would be great thanks.

Re: invalid e-mail address??

Are you using that as the email address or the server address? The server
address should be pop3.server.com or something with no @ sign.

Other than that, make sure there are no extra spaces in there.

Re: invalid e-mail address??

You are connecting via UK Online. According to their help page
http://support.ukonline.net/support_...pportoption=12
your email address should be something like username@ukonline.net.

I attempted a connection to the mail server for remmerriley.me.uk,
and it timed out.

I have some web space with web mania and I'm trying to use the pop3 e-mail
address. They server is pop3.remmerriley.me.uk and stmp.remmerriley.me.uk I
have checked their setup instrutions and I'm entering the correct
infromation. The exact error message is,

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'pop3.remmerriley.me.uk',
Server: 'pop3.remmerriley.me.uk', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No,
Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

Thanks again

Re: invalid e-mail address??

I was able to make a successful port 110 connection with
pop3.remmerriley.me.uk.
Do you have other email accounts that are working for you in Windows Mail?

If not, I'd suspect your antivirus program, see http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3

In particular, if you have McAfee or Norton antivirus, uninstall them, reboot,
and try Windows Mail again. If it works now, install a better antivirus
like AVG or Avast.

RE: invalid e-mail address??

Ok I unistalled Mcafee and installed avast. But I'm still having the same
error message

Account: 'pop3.remmerriley.me.uk', Server: 'pop3.remmerriley.me.uk',
Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR Cannot connect to POP server
193.22.244.8 (193.22.244.8:110), connect error 10060', Port: 110,
Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC90

I have no firewalls running and the router firewall is set to low. Any more
ideas?

Thanks

Re: invalid e-mail address??

The error message looks a little different, but is basically the same
as before. IP address 193.22.244.8 is pop3.web-mania.com which
is just another alias for pop3.remmerriley.me.uk. Again, I had no
trouble at all connecting to your POP server, so it is something on
your machine that is blocking the connection. Did you try it when
you had no antivirus installed? Can you try it with your firewall
turned off?
