| | Outlook Express 6 to Microsoft Mail Question or Two I just went from Outlook Express 6 to Microsoft Mail. My old Inbox is not visible in the new MSM nor are my Local folder mail visible. Obviously I need to move these over from my old Outlook Express 6. I still have my old PC up and running but not connect to net. Any idea of how to copy old to the new mail? I did note that both Express and MSM have a Inport and Export function. Thanks /jim |

| | Re: Outlook Express 6 to Microsoft Mail Question or Two Hi, I followed the instructions for moving mail from OE to Widows Vista Mail. Somehow things got messed up. The messages appear in WM but cannot be opened when I click them individually. WM no longer downloads my messages from the net. It has ceased functioning all together. Is there any way to remove it from the hard drive and reinstall? tia, ~Raenie -- Raenie "Frank Saunders, MS-MVP OE/WM" wrote: > "Jim" <jherring1@cfl.rr.com> wrote in message > news:OL4JnjufHHA.1240@TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl... > >I just went from Outlook Express 6 to Microsoft Mail. | | Re: Outlook Express 6 to Microsoft Mail Question or Two I'm assuming you can get a fresh transfer of the old OE messages. The following may get WinMail going again, but it won't recover any existing messages: With WinMail closed, use Windows Explorer to navigate to and delete this directory: C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail Then open WinMail and it should regenerate its basic structure. | | Re: Outlook Express 6 to Microsoft Mail Question or Two Thank you for your response! However, when I followed your instructions. Got a message which said: "The action can't be completed because the file is open in another program." Closed all programs. Restarted Windows. Still got same error message. Went into "Windows Mail" and deleted individual items. Cannot delete the following: tmp.edb WindowsMail.MSMessageStore edb.log error message: "The action can't be completed because the file is open in another program." -- Raenie "Gary VanderMolen" wrote: > I'm assuming you can get a fresh transfer of the old OE messages. > The following may get WinMail going again, but it won't recover any > existing messages: > > With WinMail closed, use Windows Explorer to navigate to > and delete this directory: > C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail > > Then open WinMail and it should regenerate its basic structure. > > Gary VanderMolen > > "Raenie" <Raenie@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news 40E9695-7D20-4042-A2A5-05534D8A3646@microsoft.com...> > Hi, > > > > I followed the instructions for moving mail from OE to Widows Vista Mail. > > > > Somehow things got messed up. Right click the Taskbar and choose Task Manager. Close all instances of WinMail and then try. It does no good to delete WindowsMail.MSMessageStore unless you also delete the one in backup\new. -- Frank Saunders, MS-MVP OE/WM http://www.fjsmjs.com Answer in newsgroup. | | Re: Outlook Express 6 to Microsoft Mail Question or Two Hi, I followed the suggested steps and was able to resurrect Windows Mail. Have transferred most of my data from OE but have now discovered a new problem. *I can't find the Microsolft newsgroups in Windows Mail anymore*. I had them up and working before I started rearranging files. Is there any way for me to have deleted them accidentally? How can I get them back again? Since they were how I found my way to this group, in the first place! I appreciate your help! ~Raenie -- Raenie "Frank Saunders, MS-MVP OE/WM" wrote: > "Raenie" <Raenie@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > news:C9BC0037-374E-4A91-8B7B-B14841446E29@microsoft.com... > > Thank you for your response! > > > > However, when I followed your instructions. > > > > Got a message which said: > > > > "The action can't be completed because the file is open in another > > program." > > > > Closed all programs. > > > > Restarted Windows. > > > > Still got same error message. > > > > Went into "Windows Mail" and deleted individual items. > > > > Cannot delete the following: > > > > tmp.edb > > WindowsMail.MSMessageStore > > edb.log > > > > error message: "The action can't be completed because the file is open in > > another program." > > > Right click the Taskbar and choose Task Manager. | | Re: Outlook Express 6 to Microsoft Mail Question or Two Sometimes when you do that they just disappear. Go to Tools | Accounts and add a news account for msnews.microsoft.com; aafter adding it go to its Properties and on the Windows Live ID tab make sure your Passport/Windows Live ID is correct.
