importing outlook data files to windows mail

new comp came w/ windows mail and my old comp had outlook - have a rather
large .pst file that i moved to my external hard drive from outlook (old
comp), and want to load that file into windows mail (new comp), but there is
no "open/outlook data file/" option on this windows mail version. i looked
up help, they said to "open/import/ etc" but i keep getting an error message
about not being able to open MAPI something or other. anyone know what im
talking about? any help? thx

You need to have Outlook installed to be able to import from a pst file into
Windows Mail.
You can install the evaluation version of Office 2007 to try this if you
wish? Do a custom install, only Outlook, then delete it when you have done
with it. Big D/L!!

Or if you still have the old PC then export from Outlook to OE then from OE
to WM.

Re: importing outlook data files to windows mail

Did your old computer come with a CD to install Outlook?
If so, you might be better off by installing Outlook on your
new computer.
