| | HELP I HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING TO FIX MY EMAIL For the past two weeks, I have read and re-read the solutions to the problems and I have done everything and nothing seems to be working. I sent out an email to a friend of mine on Windows Mail (I am running vista). The email never got sent. It is still sitting in my out box. When I try to delete or move this email it says message cannot be displayed, unknown error has occured. Therefore, I can no longer send out messages & I can't get rid of this one. I have tried to go through the tool/option/advanced/ etc...and remove the files...did that and it didn't work...I have tried to search that specific email and delete it...it won't work....I am beyond frusterated....and I am about to throw my computer out the window!!!! Please can someone help me offer suggestions of something else that might work???? I would great apprecaite it!!! I apologize for being a pain in the butt as I realize this problem has been discussed several times...but NOTHING IS WORKING!!!!!!!!!! ![]() |

Go here... http://www.oehelp.com/default.aspx Scroll down to the WMUtil repair tool, and give it a try. Yes, this site is for O.E., but Windows Mail is very similar. |

A quote from its web site... "Occasionally the database becomes corrupted as indicated for example by the inability of being able to delete messages from various folders. The Windows Mail database has a built-in repair feature that can sometimes fix such problems. Windows Mail provides no access to this feature, so clicking on the Repair button will manually run the repair feature on the database." http://www.oehelp.com/WMUtil/Default.aspx It has to be worth a try. Failing that... where's your window, I'll wait outside. |

There are two copies of WindowsMail.MSMessageStore, One in %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Microsoft\Windows Mail and one in %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Microsoft\Windows Mail\Backup\New If you delete both of these the database will be rebuilt. However, while no messages should be lost, some may be downloaded again and you may lose some record of which have been read. I recommend that you only do this when they are causing you trouble, like when they are in the Outbox. Otherwise I now just mark them as read and ignore them. -- Frank Saunders, MS-MVP OE/WM Do not send mail. |

| | Re: HELP I HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING TO FIX MY EMAIL Unfortunately this is a common bug with Windows Mail. Once you get a 'ghost' email stuck in the Outbox, and it won't let you send anything, your options are quite limited. If you don't feel comfortable doing the database deletion/regeneration method that has been posted here numerous times, then your only remaining option is to install and use a different email program. Mozilla Thunderbird is free: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/thunderbird/ Gary VanderMolen "A Frusterated Lady" <A Frusterated Lady@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:F6290272-0396-4BE8-80C9-3CB934F563DE@microsoft.com... > For the past two weeks, I have read and re-read the solutions to the problems > and I have done everything and nothing seems to be working. > I sent out an email to a friend of mine on Windows Mail (I am running > vista). | | Re: HELP I HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING TO FIX MY EMAIL Windows Mail has a newer (to them) form of database. Each email is stored separately. Do the following: 1) Open Control Panel then select Folder Options. a) click on the Views tab b) Select "Show hidden files and folders" c) Uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types" d) click APPLY then OK. e) Close Control Panel 2) From Windows Mail a) Click on the Tools menu b) click on Options c) click on the Advanced tab d) click the Maintenance button e) click the Store Folders button. f) make a note of the location of the message stores. It will be something like: C:\Users\<account name>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail g) close Windows Mail 3) Open Windows Explorer When it opens, you will see a small black triangle next to the user account name. Click it to collapse it. For the following, the triangle will not appear till you put the mouse over the element in question. Move the mouse to the "Computer" line. A triangle will appear, click on it to expand it. You should see something like "Local Disk (C "Click on the triangle to expand it. Locate "Users" and click on the triangle next to it to expand it. Locate <username> and click on the triangle next to it to expand it. Locate "AppData" and click on the triangle next to it to expand it. Locate "Local" and click on the triangle next to it to expand it. Locate "Microsoft" and click on the triangle next to it to expand it. Now, in the right window pane, locate Windows Mail. Click on it. In the left window pane, scroll upward till you see "Local Disk (C "Now, in the right window pane, hold them left mouse button down on the Windows Mail folder. Drag it to the "Local Disk (C " and release the mouse button.Select MOVE Here....... Now, this may take a bit to get done, depending upon how much mail is there. Give it time. Now, when it's done, create a new folder name Windows Mail to replace the moved one in the C:\Users\<account name>\AppData\Local\Microsoft folder. Now start Windows Mail. It will be empty but that's no biggie. Create a couple of folders in Windows Mail and name them Old Mail, Old Sent. Click on the Old Mail folder to open it. Resize Windows Mail so you can see both Windows Explorer and Windows Mail. In the Windows Mail folder you will see a Local Folders folder, click the triangle to expand it. Locate the Inbox folder. In this folder you will see a lot of .eml files. These are the old emails. Drag and drop ONLY the .eml files to the Old Mail folder in Windows Mail. Do similar for Sent Items to the Old Sent folder. Now, see if Windows Mail works for you. | | Re: HELP I HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING TO FIX MY EMAIL If you have read everything already here it is again. First thing is to remove McAfee or Norton AV and antispam from the computer if they exist. You may need to visit their website to fully uninstall the product (for Norton see here: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...05033108162039. Then get something less invasive. There are a number of free antivirus programs, but with any you have to disable email scanning. See www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3 You can also try compacting and repairing the database using my WMUtil program (www.oehelp.com/WMUtil/). After that, the only solution so far is to wipe out the database. So go to Tools | Options | Advanced | Maintenance | Store Folder to find the message store location. Then move everything under that Windows Mail directory to another directory, so that the Windows Mail directory is completely empty. Then restart WinMail and it will open fresh with nothing in the database. You can then add your accounts and if they work correctly then you can drag messages from the directory to which you moved the files back into WinMail. steve "A Frusterated Lady" <A Frusterated Lady@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:F6290272-0396-4BE8-80C9-3CB934F563DE@microsoft.com... > For the past two weeks, I have read and re-read the solutions to the > problems > and I have done everything and nothing seems to be working. > I sent out an email to a friend of mine on Windows Mail (I am running > vista).
