| | Unable to attatch Word document to email from Vista Windows Mail Perhaps my problem is that I have the 2002 edition of Word, but I'm unable to send a document that is attatched to an email. I have to be able to do this for my job and am getting incredibly frustrated because Dell and Microsoft are not providing any answers. Can someone answer my question? Is it related to an older version of Word? Microsoft says this should work but it doesn't. Dell also said it should work but they are just a bunch of East Indians that have a problem with communication both ways -- understanding and expressing. Thank you!! |

| | Re: Unable to attatch Word document to email from Vista Windows Mail Do you get any error messages? Please give the complete, exact error message. This is usually caused by an anti-spam program or an anti-virus set to scan email. Turn off email scanning in your anti-virus. It provides no added protection. After doing so it may be necessary to reset the server names in OE. The Other E-Mail Threat: File Corruption in Outlook Express Published: November 18, 2004 By Tom Koch http://www.microsoft.com/windows/IE/...orruption.mspx Email scanning slows down Sending and Receiving, sometimes enough that OE times out. Since some of the received messages have large (often virus) attachments, which exasperates the problem. Some Comcast users have found it necessary to totally uninstall Norton and switch to the free AVG with mail scanning off. Norton invented email scanning and here's what they say: "Disabling Email Scanning does not leave you unprotected against viruses that are distributed as email attachments. Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect scans incoming files as they are saved to your hard drive, including email and email attachments. Email Scanning is just another layer on top of this. To make sure that Auto-Protect is providing the maximum protection, keep Auto-Protect enabled and run LiveUpdate regularly to ensure that you have the most recent virus definitions." http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...256c7500723cf0 "...your computer is protected if Auto-Protect is enabled. Auto-Protect scans any incoming files, including email attachments, when the files are saved to your hard drive." http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...01100907323806 "NAV provides multiple layers of protection. Email scanning is just one of those layers. Even if you are not running Email Scanning, your computer is protected against viruses that are distributed as email attachments by NAV Auto-Protect. Auto-Protect will scan any incoming files, including email attachments, as they are saved to your hard drive. To make sure that Auto-Protect is providing the maximum protection, keep Auto-Protect enabled and run LiveUpdate regularly to ensure that you have the most recent virus definitions." http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...rc=bar_sch_nam See also http://help.expedient.com/mailnews/n...ntivirus.shtml So Symantec used to say this often and clearly. The newer stuff doesn't have the statement included as it was considered an embarrassment. If you know anyone who programs for Norton try to get them to talk about it. -- Frank Saunders, MS-MVP OE/WM http://www.fjsmjs.com "TBSR" <TBSR@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:BD8078E1-F665-4BE6-9C27-621309FFADF3@microsoft.com... > Perhaps my problem is that I have the 2002 edition of Word, but I'm unable > to > send a document that is attatched to an email. | | Re: Unable to attatch Word document to email from Vista Windows Mail We need less verbiage and little more description of what "unable" means. Is there an error message? Can you send *any* emails, either with or without attachments? Are you making sure that Word is closed when you add the .doc attachment to an email? Well, he certainly could have phrased it in a more politically correct manner, but I know whereof he speaks, having had to call the Bangladesh-based Dell customer support myself. It is one of the biggest sources of Dell customer complaints: http://www.ideastorm.com/article/show/61833 -- Gary VanderMolen |

They open mouth or type away without thinking. I have to call that area quite often for warranty work. I've joked with them but I don't run them down because of their accent. Hell, I'm "Suthern" and no one runs me down because of my accent. Well, a couple have tried but once they got back up they changed their minds. I've been called it all. A couple of years ago I was doing some work for some friends. I was building two pool decks. I've got an old 1968 Chevy C30. It's old, smokes a little, worn out but will pull with the best of them. Some gal all dressed to the nines pulls up next to me at a stop light and I'm looking at her car, a Mustang of which I'm a fan. She hollars out the window about me being white trash, light turns green and she speeds off. Three or so months later, I see her car on the side of the road with the hood up. I'm cleaned up and driving my Merc. Walk up to the car, she's standing there and just starts saying how nice it was for me to stop to help fix her car...... Boy was she in for a suprise. I asked if she recognized me and she said no. Then I asked if she thought white trash could fix it? Her tanned skin turned pale because she knew she screwed up. The only person that stopped was one she had run down earlier. I think she learned a lesson that day. So I'm hoping for all those people out there that have run down others because of race, accent or whatever, they get their day and those people they've run down are needed by them and walk away leaving them up the creek without a paddle. Doesn't matter if the tech support is bad or not, Dell will eventually get the idea to make a change somewhere down the line. But Bozo is still a bigot. Can't change that by doing community service work. I've seen so called reformers still open their mouth and stick their read end in. |
