"Processing Messages" delay at startup

Every time I start Windows Mail it goes through over a dozen sets of
messages. Each popup window has a different number of messages and a
counter runs through the number, then on to the next set.

What is this and why does it happen every time?

I've never seen this. Can you give any more information about the windows?
Do they say Recovering messages?

Re: "Processing Messages" delay at startup

I have confirmed that it is going through all my folders, doing something
with every message. It takes over a minute to do this every time at
startup.

Re: "Processing Messages" delay at startup

OK, I have put two problems together.

Every time I try to close Windows Mail it crashes, so likely the message
indexes are not being created and therefore startup has to do it every time.

Gosh it's fun to be on the bLeeding Edge of Microsoft technology. Dell is
really doing its customers a big service by forcing us to use Vista and no
longer offering an operating system that works. Gee this is fun. NOT!

I used the MS tool to copy settings and files. It copied SOME files. It
copied all my single mail folders, but the folder I have with sub-folders
didn't make it from my old computer. If I run the tool again will it detect
the missing stuff, or do the whole, er partial, job again?

Is there any way to actually communicate with Microsoft these days?

Re: "Processing Messages" delay at startup

This turned out to be the McAfee Spam Killer. I removed it and my email
works fine now.
