| Guest | Outlook Express to Windows Mail - AGAIN I know this subject has been well covered but something is not working for me. My old computer has Windows XP Home with Outlook Express 6. My new computer has Windows Vista Home Premium with Windows Mail. I want to transfer my Outlook Express data (existing messages in existing "local" folders & existing addresss in iexisting folder groups) so that I have the same data in Windows Mail that I have in Outlook Express. The addresses did transfer over, with help from a computer guy, but I now have just one list that contains everyone from the various group folders and no old group folders. I have not been able to transfer any of my old messages from my old computer. Soooo, please, one more time, will someone who has successfully transferred Outlook Express from a Window XP computer to a Windows Vista Home Premium computer please again tell me how to transfer from Outlook Express on one computer to Windows Mail on another computer. Thnaks much !!! Harold |

| Guest | Re: Outlook Express to Windows Mail - AGAIN Hi, On the XP machine, make sure you can see hidden and system files (Folder Options> View.) Find the message store by searching for *.dbx. Or go to Outlook Express> Tools> Options> Maintenance. Click on Store Folder to locate the message store. Copy all of the dbx files, including folders.dbx to a (newly created) folder on the Vista machine. Folders.dbx will recreate your folder tree. If you transfer the files via a CD, you may have to select all, right-click> Properties, remove the Read Only attribute once they're on the Vista machine. Open Windows Mail> File> Import> Messages, follow the prompts. Point the Import tool to the folder containing the dbx files. Address groups don't export / import. You will have to recreate the groups. Hope this helps, Don [MS MVP- IE] "Roadrunner38" <Roadrunner38@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news 441070E-E7BD-43BD-82AB-EC30483F0DC8@microsoft.com...> I know this subject has been well covered but something is not working for me. > > My old computer has Windows XP Home with Outlook Express 6. > > My new computer has Windows Vista Home Premium with Windows Mail. > > I want to transfer my Outlook Express data (existing messages in existing > "local" folders & existing addresss in iexisting folder groups) so that I > have the same data in Windows Mail that I have in Outlook Express. > > The addresses did transfer over, with help from a computer guy, but I now > have just one list that contains everyone from the various group folders and > no old group folders. > > I have not been able to transfer any of my old messages from my old computer. > > Soooo, please, one more time, will someone who has successfully transferred > Outlook Express from a Window XP computer to a Windows Vista Home Premium > computer please again tell me how to transfer from Outlook Express on one > computer to Windows Mail on another computer. > > Thnaks much !!! > > Harold |
