my computer...If I delete them why does it still show the same amount and am
I really deleting them ??...Are all these posts actually on my hard drive

As noted in an earlier reply, you cannot delete them from the server.

However, if you have elected to download them to disk, those posts can
be purged. See HELP & SUPPORT for more info.

And, in Windows Mail, look under the TOOLS|OPTIONS menu. Click the
ADVANCED tab, then MAINTENANCE.

You are not able to delete them from the server where they are stored

However... you can cancel your own messages providing you
do it with the same Id.

Sometimes.
It depends on the server.

ok. On mine, news.btinternet.com, it does.

BTW... when I send a post to my server presumably it is then propagated
across all servers
on the NNTP network. If I cancel a message successfully does your point
(above) mean
that the post could still remain on other servers across usenet, or that
if my server accepts cancel the message is wiped across the board?

Re: Newsgroup posts

That's the number of messages not marked as read, whether they are on your
machine or the server. It is only an estimate based on message IDs.
