| | Windows Mail will not hold setting as default email program I cannot get Windows Mail (WMail) to stay the default email program. When I start WMail I am told that it is not the default email program, so I click Yes to make it the default program. Once WMail has loaded I go into Tools and Options and on the General Tab it tells me that WMail is not the default email program so I click the "make this the default" button. I have also tried through internet options and default programs but WMail does not appear as an option it just shows "default program". I installed Thunderbird and set that to default successfully, it also appeared in the list on "default programs". Any ideas please? |

| | Re: Windows Mail will not hold setting as default email program I remember seeing in the control panel an item for setting default programs. This is probably what you want. As with all changes, make sure that after you change a setting, hit Apply and then OK. Just hitting OK makes the change only for this session (usually). I'm not on a Vista machine right now so don't know the exact name. | | Re: Windows Mail will not hold setting as default email program Oppie, Thanks for posting, unfortunately, I had already tried that route without success. The Control Panel does not offer me any options for email other than "Default email program" unless I install Thunderbird which then gives me the choice of "Thunderbird" and "Default email program", but I cannot specify Windows Mail as the default through the Control Panel. Any more ideas anybody please? "Oppie" wrote: > I remember seeing in the control panel an item for setting default programs. > This is probably what you want. "Turn off the User Account Control (UAC) for your account in the control panel under User Accounts. You will have to reboot after doing this. Then set Windows Mail as the default email account again and test to make sure the change has taken. Once you have it set as default, then you should be able to turn the UAC back on (reboot required) and have Windows Mail stay as the default." Based on an successful solution provided by Lumpy Cat for a similar scenario concerning Incredimail. > > "Oppie" wrote: > >> I remember seeing in the control panel an item for setting default >> programs. >> This is probably what you want.
