| Guest | using gmail with windows mail I am using windows vista. MSN is my internet service provider but I have a free email account with them. My brother told me I could use my gmail account with windows mail and have that work. I have tried to set it up filling in the appropriate information (pop3, smtp), but I am unable to get a connection. I try to send mail and it will not. I've tried to retrieve mail out of my gmail account and cannot. I have no idea what to do and the help suggestions are leading me in circles. Does anybody have any suggestions? |

The links describe setup for Outlook Express, Windows mail setup is exactly the same. Check your settings as per: http://mail.google.com/support/bin/a...y?answer=13276 http://mail.google.com/support/bin/a...y?answer=13273 HTH? -- Regards Steve. MS-MVP. OE. [DTS] UK |

Stick with it... make sure you have followed the instructions on the following link http://mail.google.com/support/bin/a...y?answer=13276 Don't worry about it saying Outlook Express, the details are the same, and pay particular attention to the final part... ie, * Did you click 'Save Changes' after enabling POP in Google Mail? To ensure that Google Mail can communicate with your mail client, make sure you click 'Save Changes' on the 'Forwarding and POP' tab in your Google Mail settings. |

| Guest | Re: using gmail with windows mail I assume you followed all the correct settings as far as port numbers and SSL. Did you enable POP access at Gmail? By default POP access is turned off. Ignore my "Have you tried "username@googlemail.com" and password?" suggestion. I misread you and thought you were talking about logging onto the Gmail web page. |
