| | migrating outlook express to window mail I have "exported" my Outlook Express 6.0 messages per instructions (copy the message store to another directory) to a memory stick. I have move the stick to a Vista (Basic Home, if that matters) system and have done file/import. When I browse to the directory which holds the message store, Windows Mail claims there is nothing to import. It looks straight forward, but I seem to be missing something any suggestions. |

| | Re: migrating outlook express to window mail Steve, I have checked the properties and unchecked the Read Only and the dbx files keep reverting to read only and WM won't recognize that they are in the file folder. What do I do???? I'm getting very frustrated with importing my Outlook files into WM and would appreciate any help you can offer. Thanks, Marme "Steve Cochran" wrote: Quote: > See the part in red here: www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx#oe2wm Make sure you > follow the steps exactly. > > steve > > "pprien" <pprien@xxxxxx> wrote in message > news:1EC68E5D-774B-410E-A206-64C4AADBC914@xxxxxx Quote: > >I have "exported" my Outlook Express 6.0 messages per instructions (copy > >the > > message store to another directory) to a memory stick. | | Re: migrating outlook express to window mail Doing that while the files are still on the memory stick may not work. Also, Windows Mail often has problems reading through a USB connection. Copy them to a directory on your hard disk and see if you can make them read-write there. | | Re: migrating outlook express to window mail Hi Robert, I did copy the files to a folder I named OE6 under My Documents. I've had problems with other settings that seem to keep reverting under Vista. | | Re: migrating outlook express to window mail Hi Steve Thank you for valuable posts. Followed your recommended steps. WM shows an "Imported Folder" under "Local Folders" with following problems: 1. Cannot see contents of folders (see error msg below) 2. In my XP OE, I had numerous folders organised in a structured tree (eg top-level folder, with sub-folders, with sub-folders etc). However, the import only managed to import the first (in alphabetical order) top-level folder with all its sub-folders; subsequent top-level folders only have the first sub-folder showing, the rest are missing. Due to problem #1, I cannot see any data anyway. As I need my email, I then installed Outlook2003 and tried to import OE. However, when i point the import program to the folder containing the OE data (in Users\Name\Documents\OEdata), it informs that another program has control of this folder and it cannot be accessed. MS makes it VERY frustrating to migrate from XP to Vista! Folder could not be displayed Windows Mail could not open this folder. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Possible causes are: Low disk space. Low memory. Yet I have TENS of GB available on HDD, and have 2GB RAM. Any help would be much appreciated. What if any antivirus programs do you have, and have you ever had a Norton or McAfee antivirus program on that computer, even one of the free trial versions that often come already installed on new computers? Also, Windows Mail often has problems reading files not on the main hard drive, and for imports, it often has problems with files that are readonly instead of read-write.
