Re: Windows Mail (Not Responding)

When I click the Create Mail tool in the Windows Mail toolbar the new
email window opens with the a "blank" look. No text except "New
Message." No toolbar. Just separate areas outlined.

Then after five seconds or so, the heading becomes: "New Message (Not
Responding)"

Then after another five seconds or so all the text and toolbar
appears.

The Task Manager shows that Windows Mail is using about 50% of the
resources during this process.

This is brand new Dell Inspiron E1705. Vista rating 3.5 (the 256 MB
ATI 1400 video card is the lagard).

Re: Windows Mail (Not Responding)

Try this: Windows Mail Slow

If no improvement, report back to us and let us know which antivirus program
you are running.

Re: Windows Mail (Not Responding)

Thanks.

The calendar work around reduced the time to get the text, etc. to
show in the Create Mail dialog box/window in half (or a bit more) to
about four seconds and the (Not Responding) text didn't show up.

This didn't change when I did the Windows.reg registration edit.

I didn't test rebooting and testing again.

I don't have any anti-virus program. I pulled McAfee out after two
days on my new Inspiron E1705. I have Windows Defender. I have anti-
virus on my POP3 mail server.

Thanks again.

Re: Windows Mail (Not Responding)

Thank you to everyone. We went on vacation for two weeks. When we returned,
I downloaded some updates and, bingo, I can open attachments again. I really
don't know what happened, but I'm a happy camper again.

Can somebody recommend a good antivirus program. With all the trouble I've
had, I removed the original one from my computer. Please don't ask how or
why. Is there a good free one, or do I need to purchase one?

Avast is good and free:
http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

Be sure to configure it NOT to scan emails.

Re: Windows Mail (Not Responding)

Tried to download this. It didn't work. When I tried to restart, it
wouldn't restart. The computer automatically went to a previous "safe"
point, before the download.

Re: Windows Mail (Not Responding)

Sorry to hear that. You must be the first person I've heard of
who had trouble installing Avast. Perhaps you should try the free
AVG antivirus: http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/us/frt/0

naxt day windows mail would not open attachments. Had worked fine till then
but cant fugure out how to get it back.

IE8 can cause problems with opening attachments, Did you install it from
Windows Update recently?
Open Internet Explorer>help menu>about, what version shows?
If you have IE8, also check at Windows Update>Update History, when did it
install? Does that date correspond with the attachment problem?

If so you can remove IE8, and when it is offered again hide the IE8 update.

How to uninstall IE8:

Re: Windows Mail (Not Responding)

What services did you turn off? Turn them back on and reboot.

Look on the Security Tab in Options. Does it block ALL or can
you process ZIP?
