mailto

When I first installed Vista I couldn't get the Mail to work. After beating
my head against the wall for over a week I bit the bullet and had to
reinstall Vista. So now a least I can receive and sent mail. But a new
problem has popped up.

Every time I try to open a mailto link it tells me the default client wasn't
installed correctly and then opens 35 windows.
Which of course shots the pc down. Doesn't Microsoft have anyone working
there that can solve these stupid email problems

Re: mailto

I appreciate the effort but I don't have a HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\mailto in my
registry. Also the link looks like it is for XP and not Vista. I don't know
if this helps but every time I go to mail it tells me that it is not set as
the default. I have set it as default many times but it doesn't seem to make
any difference. Again thanks

Re: mailto

Perhaps your mailto doesn't work because it's missing from the registry.
My Vista does have that key, and I'm attaching a copy if you want to
use it.

Re: mailto

Thanks a ton for that. It stopped the windows opening. I still can't use
mailto because it comes up and say the default client isn't properly
installed. I've been beating my head against the wall for 2 weeks now about
this. As I mentioned before it looks like the link you gave me is for XP so
it's not exact. I've tried changing permissions etc. but so far it hasn't
worked. Again thanks.

Re: mailto

Go to Control Panel | Default programs and make WinMail default. If that
doesn't fix the problem, then go to Start | Search and paste the line below
into the window and hit return:

"C:\Program Files\Windows Mail\WinMail.exe" OCInstallReinstallOE

Re: mailto

I tried pasting the line but it tells me it can't find C:\Program. I pasted
the whole line --C:\Program Files\Windows Mail\WinMail.exe"
OCInstallReinstallOE--. I don't know if that was correct. Thanks

Re: mailto

Did you leave out the quote marks before C?
I pasted > the whole line --C:\Program Files\Windows Mail\WinMail.exe"
OCInstallReinstallOE
It should be: "C:\Program Files\Windows Mail\WinMail.exe" OCInstallReinstallOE
