| | How do you compact folders in Windows Mail? Can anyone tell me how to compact folders in Windows Mail? I can't find the option to this manually, as I could in Outlook Express. I'm finding the program to be quite sluggish. Thanks! |

| | Re: How do you compact folders in Windows Mail? Unfortunately, the manual option was removed. Can't imagine why. To work around it, reset Compact Database on ever ### runs to 1 (in Tools / Advanced / Maintenance). Exit W Mail, restart and exit again and it will compact. Then reset ### back to the default 100 or your other preference. | | Re: How do you compact folders in Windows Mail? Rebecca, Go to www.oehelp.com/wmutil and download Steve Cochran's utility. Then run the utility (after unzipping the file) to compact your e-mail. I hope this helps. Then reset ### back to the default 100 or your other preference. Because it doesn't mean the same thing in Windows Mail. The actual folder for Windows Mail are Windows Folders with a separate EML file for each message instead of the terrible DBX files that OE used. -- Frank Saunders, MS-MVP OE/WM Do not send mail. |

| | Re: How do you compact folders in Windows Mail? I have discovered that every few days a box pops up in WM asking if I want the database compacted. I click and it's done. Is that what you asked? | | Re: How do you compact folders in Windows Mail? That's an interesting utility. Unfortunately, I found that running it significantly increased the storage being used by WM. I use Windows Mail as a news reader only, and maybe it would be different for the mail store alone. -- "Dick Wagner" <rw13204@cox.net> wrote in message news:43F2F54F-6F05-4494-AF48-73029ECC8900@microsoft.com... > Rebecca, > > Go to > > www.oehelp.com/wmutil > > and download Steve Cochran's utility. | | Re: How do you compact folders in Windows Mail? The repair function creates a backup copy of the database file. Once its finished and things are working okay, you can delete the backup. That's what is increasing the size. steve "GTS" <x@y.net> wrote in message news:uBsyjlFrHHA.4836@TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl... > That's an interesting utility.
