Windows Mail is the default Mail Client in Vista, not Outlook Express.
(Outlook Express cannot be installed in Vista.)

Installing Windows Live Mail makes it your default Mail Client in Vista (and
WinXP).

You should be able to make Windows Mail the default again via Set Program
Access and Defaults.
